Marciac

Founded at the end of the 13th century, the fortified town of Marciac, in the heart of Gascony, is best known for its jazz festival called Jazz in Marciacwhich has been held every year since 1978 at the end of July and beginning of August. This internationally renowned festival is a festive and convivial event at which many famous artists have performed, including Ray Charles, Dizzy Gillespie, Bill Coleman, Michel Petrucciani, Oscar Peterson, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Dianne Reeves and Wynton Marsalis.

The Jazz Museum, located in the former Augustinian monastery opposite the charming square of the Knight of Antras , is an original place dedicated entirely to the world of swing and the history of jazz from its origins to the present day. An absolute must for music enthusiasts and lovers of rousing swing rhythms!

Gers - the cozy department
in the southwest of France

The Gers is part of the former Gascony. The musketeer D'Artagnon spent his childhood and youth here. In Auch, the capital of the department, his statue guards the grand staircase that leads from the lower town to the upper town.

And like D'Artagnon, every Gersois and Gersoise has a mischievous and good-natured look on their face. If you want to see the four musketeers, travel to Condom, the capital of Armagnac, where they stand in front of the cathedral in the center.

A lot of poultry is reared outdoors here. The best foie gras in France is reared in the Gers in the area around Samaran, Seissan and Gimont. For those who don't like liver, trying a traditional duck dish is a must!

Excellent wine is grown in the north. World-famous varieties such as Château Montus are at home here. The wine regions of St. Mont, Madiran and Côtes de Gascogne offer a variety of first-class wines. Armagnac is an older form of cognac and connaiseurs often prefer it to cognac. Try a "Floc de Gascogne". It is drunk as an aperitif and is produced as a specialty by each wine producer.

But not only wine is one of our treasures, water is also abundant. This is why the Gers is a green department.

Gers is criss-crossed by the medieval pilgrimage route "St. Jacques de Compostelle" (Way of St. James), which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are churches and other buildings to visit at virtually every corner.

In many places you will see the"Pigeoniers", architecturally appealing pigeon houses.

The Gers is still an insider tip. Green, gentle tourism is slowly but surely being promoted here. If you are looking for beautiful landscapes, good food and lots of peace and tranquillity, then the Gers is certainly something for you.
